The society for fern enthusiasts
The Plant Exchange Scheme offers members the opportunity to obtain species and varieties of hardy and greenhouse ferns that are not readily available from commercial nurseries and enables good homes to be found for surplus plants from your garden and spore sowings.
The plants themselves are offered free of charge, but it is usual to re-imburse the sender for postage etc. There is no need to have a plant to send in return, but such 'swaps' can mean that postage cancels out.
Overseas orders
When ordering or sending plants, please bear in mind that sending plants between different countries or juristictions oftern requires phytosanitary certificates to be provided. Please ensure you check the requirements of the recipient area before sending plants outside of your own country.
So how do you take part?
It is very simple. The scheme needs both donors and recipients and you can be either or both as you wish.
If you are interested in obtaining plants through the scheme, just send your name and e-mail address to plants@britishfernsociety.org.uk. Whenever we are notified that some plants are available, we will send a mail to all those on the list with the contact details of the donor and what they have to offer. If you are interested in any of them, simply e-mail the donor to find out more.
If you have any ferns which you would like to find good homes for, again, simply send the details to us and we will pass this information on to our mailing list of interested members. They can then contact you directly to sort out the details.
We hope this system will be straightforward to use, but if you have any queries or need any support or advice, please contact us.
We are here to help.
